Croeso, welcome, kia ora to the Llareggyb Miners’ Choir

The Llareggyb Miners’ Choir, originally from Wales, after many trials, tribulations and hardships, mollified only by a passion for singing, arrived in Cambria, Central Otago, New Zealand in the 1960’s. Now based in Auckland, Aotearoa New Zealand, they still sing (and dress) in the way that they did when they first arrived. This site is dedicated to their story, their passion and their distinctly peculiar sense of humour!

WHO THE HELL ARE WE?

Life was hard in the Welsh mining towns and villages in the 1960’s. The work had always been hard, and dangerous. Determined to improve the working conditions, miners took industrial action. Striking miners had no pay.
